Most religious idol workshops in Kerala work from fixed moulds in fixed sizes. If the idol you need — the specific iconographic form, the specific size, the specific finish — doesn't exist in their range, you cannot get it.
FOFUS works differently. We accept commissions for custom deity sculptures — specific forms, specific sizes, specific iconographic requirements, shrine installation sets, or entirely original sacred sculptures based on references you provide.
What We Commission
Specific Iconographic Forms
The Hindu tradition has hundreds of iconographic variations for every major deity. Guruvayurappan alone has forms specific to the Guruvayur temple's iconography that differ in hand positions, attributes, and posture from other Krishna representations. If you want a specific temple's iconography — not just a generic Krishna — we can work from temple references and devotional sources to produce it.
Similarly for:
- Shiva — Nataraja (cosmic dancer), Ardhanarishvara (half-Shiva half-Parvati), Dakshinamurti (south-facing teacher), Lingodbhava (emerging from the lingam), Sangameswarar (river-confluence form)
- Vishnu — Mahavishnu, Trivikrama (three-step Vamana), Anantasayanam (reclining on Adi Shesha), Narasimha
- Devi — Mahishasuramardini (Durga killing the buffalo demon), Saraswati with specific attributes, Bhagavati (Kerala's fierce goddess form)
- Murugan — with Vel, with Valli and Devasena, Shanmukha (six-faced)
- Ayyappa — the Kerala forest deity, in the specific Sabarimala-tradition iconography
Custom Sizes
Our standard range runs from small (80mm) to large (350mm). For installations — temple prayer rooms, home shrines, or institutional spaces — we produce pieces at larger scales. We have produced pieces exceeding 600mm for institutional clients and shrine installations. Scale determines price and production time; all of this is discussed before any work begins.
Shrine Installation Sets
Many of our most meaningful commissions are complete shrine sets: a central deity, flanking figures, a decorated background panel, and a base/platform designed as a unit. We have done:
- Guruvayurappan with flanking Garuda and Hanuman
- Shiva-Parvati with Nandi and Ganesh as flanking pieces
- Navgraha (nine planet deities) sets in a single coordinated commission
- Pancha Bhuta Shivalingam sets representing the five elemental manifestations of Shiva
The Commission Process
- Enquiry — Contact us via WhatsApp or email with your requirement. Include the deity, the form, the size, and any reference images you have.
- Reference review — We review iconographic sources and discuss the specific form with you. Any ambiguities in iconographic tradition are flagged at this stage.
- Design — We produce a digital render for your approval before manufacturing begins.
- Approval and advance — You approve the design and pay a 50% advance. Custom commissions are non-refundable once manufacturing begins.
- Manufacturing — Production at our Irinjalakuda studio. Standard commissions take 7–14 days. Complex multi-piece sets take 3–4 weeks.
- Review and delivery — We photograph the completed piece for your review before shipping. Delivery pan-India and internationally.
Pricing
Custom commission pricing depends on size, complexity, and number of pieces. As a guide:
- Single deity sculpture, standard size (150mm): from ₹1,800
- Single deity sculpture, large size (250mm+): from ₹3,500
- Two-piece shrine set: from ₹4,500
- Full shrine installation set (5+ pieces): from ₹12,000
