Most Keralites living outside India eventually face the same problem. You want to send something home — or bring something back — that says more than an Amazon gift card. Something that the person actually keeps. Something that acknowledges where the family is from.
Generic options don’t work. Import-shop Kerala souvenirs look like what they are. And finding a quality piece from home, shipped reliably to an international address, is harder than it should be.
FOFUS ships from Irinjalakuda, Thrissur to the UAE, UK, US, Canada, Singapore, Australia, and across the Gulf. These are the pieces worth sending.
What Makes a Good Kerala Gift for Abroad
The criteria are different when you’re sending internationally. The piece needs to survive shipping — which means it needs to be robust enough to handle two to three weeks in transit without arriving in fragments. It needs to mean something specific — generic “Kerala” branding without authentic cultural content reads as performative. And it needs to look like it belongs in a home, not a souvenir cabinet.
Every piece in the FOFUS catalog is packaged specifically for international transit. Custom foam-cut inserts, double-boxed for fragile pieces, with tracking on every order.
The Pieces Most Ordered by NRI Customers
Theyyam Heritage Sculpture — Kerala Artorium
Theyyam is from north Kerala — Malabar, Kolathunadu, Kannur, Kasaragod. For families from that region, a well-made Theyyam sculpture is the piece that shows someone actually understood what they were looking at. It’s the most regionally specific thing in our catalog, and the most emotionally resonant for the people it’s meant for.
The headdress geometry on our Theyyam piece is where it earns its place. It’s extraordinarily difficult to render in three dimensions. When we got it right, that’s when we knew it was ready.
Guruvayurappan Idol — 3D Divine
For Kerala Hindu families — regardless of district — Guruvayurappan is the household deity. He’s in the pooja room in Abu Dhabi and the flat in Southall and the apartment in New Jersey. A well-made Guruvayurappan idol, made near the actual temple, is the right gift for someone setting up a home abroad or someone whose existing idol has aged.
Our 3D Divine Guruvayurappan follows the iconographic canon of the Guruvayur temple specifically. The proportions are correct. The four-armed form holds the correct attributes.
Kathakali Figurine — Kerala Artorium
Kathakali is Kerala’s most internationally recognised art form — which means there are a lot of bad Kathakali figurines in the world. Most of them look the same: heavy green face, crude costume, wrong mudra.
The Kerala Artorium Kathakali figurine is the one you can put on a shelf in London or Dubai without embarrassment. The costume layers are distinct. The Pacha face paint is accurate. The mudra is the right one. It photographs well, which matters when it’s sitting on a bookshelf in a home where people ask about it.
Kerala Nalukettu Architectural Model — Kerala Artorium
The nalukettu — the traditional four-sided Kerala courtyard home — is the piece most likely to stop someone in their tracks when they see it. It goes on a desk or a mantle and becomes the thing people ask about.
For NRI families, it’s the most specific memory object we make. The central courtyard, the sloped laterite tiles, the carved wooden pillars: it says “I remembered what our home looked like” in a way that nothing else does.
